Sierra Leone’s international image has been boosted with an award of Best Diplomatic Mission 2010 in the United Kingdom.
The award which will be received this weekend by Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Edward Mohamed Turay, at a special ceremony at the Thistle Hotel, Kensington Gardens, West London, organised by BEN Television in the United Kingdom,
A letter addressed to the High Commissioner states: “Im happy to announce that your Mission has been chosen as the winner of the BEN TV Diplomatic Award 2010 in the following category: Diaspora growth, developmemt and involvement; good customer service; promoting the country’s image abroad and Sierra Leone’s Human Development.”
Over the last few years, the Sierra Leone High Commission in London has provided remarkable services for its nationals based in the UK especially on consular matters and other personal issues.
The misson is also credited for its effort in engaging Sierra Leoneans on issues relating to their country while providing robust information strategies in reaching out to thousands of Sierra Leoneans not only in the United Kingdom but also in Europe with up-to-date news about developments back home.
The mission has toured cities like Manchester, Brighton, Bristol and Liverpool to mention but a few in a meet-the-people tour where Sierra Leoneans are briefed about developments back home.
Other winning countries are Nigeria, Gambia, Uganda, Kenya, Morocco, Namibia, Lesotho, Tanzania and Equatorial Guinea in the African category.
There will also be awards for Diplomat of the Year,, Deputy Head of Mission of the Year, Distinguish Contribution to Diplomacy etc.
